Children’s Ministry
We love children! At Southside we are committed to providing a safe, secure, clean, loving, learning environment for your child. We consider it an honor and a privilege to serve children from infancy through grade 5. Children are a gift of God and need to be nurtured and treasured. The goal of the Children’s Ministry is to partner with parents/caregivers in the spiritual development and well-being of the family. All of our staff are volunteer workers who have completed a background screening process. Although we may use young people as helpers, there is always a responsible adult present.
Infants and Toddlers, age 6 weeks to three years, are cared for in our lovely new nursery complex. They are given plenty of adult attention as they participate in age appropriate activities. Nursery care is provided at our regularly scheduled Sunday Service at 11:00 (10:30 in the Summer) and during Sunday School classes. We have a vibrating paging system to contact parents in the event of a problem or an emergency. When checking your child in, you will receive a pager. That pager number is entered on the security label with your child's name and instructions. If you are needed during a service, you will receive a vibrating page. Please come to the nursery immediately. When you return the pager, you receive your child. Only adults should be picking up children from the nursery.
Our PreK/K ministry is primarily geared for 3 to 5 year old children. This lively group uses a variety of activities to learn about God and have an overview of the Bible at their age level. Groups are kept intentionally small so that each child receives plenty of adult guidance. The Sunday school class meets at 9:45-10:45 am during the school year. PreK/K worship operates during the second worship service. After a transition playtime, the children are led to worship God. Parents are requested to pick up their preschool children at the close of the worship service. (Children will only be released to a parent or guardian, not an older sibling.) First through Fifth grade meet for Sunday school at 9:45 am during the school year. They are divided into small classes by school grade. Experienced teachers guide them through age appropriate materials. Currently, the classes are broken up into 1st-3rd Grade in one class and 4th & 5th grade in another. After Sunday Bible Study, the children join their parents in the Sanctuary and participate in the musical worship part of the regular church service, and are then dismissed to their own Children's Church time. This time allows them to learn about God on their level using age appropriate activities and curriculum. Children are not dismissed without a parent or legal guardian to pick them up. These kids are welcome and encouraged to bring their friends on Sunday mornings as well as their families. AWANA During the School year, we also have a very active Club on Friday Nights. Children Preschool (Age 3 minimum) through 6th grade participate in the program and children are encouraged to invite their friends to join them. For more information about our club night, please click here. VBS - Vacation Bible School - Summer Fun! In the summer, we have a full week of Vacation Bible School. Each year, a special theme is chosen along with a series of lessons that teach the children God’s word. Crafts, games, refreshments and special music are all a part of this fun filled week. The children are encouraged to bring their school and neighborhood friends. Click here for the registration form. Southside’s Children’s Ministry is small enough that the leaders/teachers know each child by name and see each child’s unique gifts and interest. We encourage you to come and join us at for a wonderful time of learning, sharing, and growing! At present, we do not have a Children's Ministry Director, but we do have an excellent team of volunteers and if you have questions or concerns you can contact the church office, or Beth Bower in the AWANA Office at 669-1818 ext. 16. |
