What We Believe
Our Foundation in Scripture
We are an independent church that follows the teachings of Jesus Christ in the Bible, which we believe is the inerrant Word of God, written by men as the Holy Spirit led them. The Bible is God's Word and our authoritative guide for living.
Our beliefs are centered on the Trinity, the deity of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, the atonement of Christ, and salvation by grace through faith. This means that we believe salvation is a gift from God, not something we can earn through our efforts.

Church Ordinances
We see the Bible recognizing two ordinances our Lord Jesus Christ commissioned to symbolize our union with Him. They serve as a reminder of His death, burial, and resurrection.
The Lord's Supper
(Communion)
Jesus instituted communion to "remember" His death and resurrection until He returns for His church (Matthew 26:26-28). Christ died for us (Luke 22:19-20).
Jesus used two symbols to denote His sacrifice on the cross:
- The bread symbolizes His broken body
- The drink represents His blood that was shed to pay the penalty for our sins
At SBF, we celebrate communion on the first Sunday of each month.
Believer's Baptism
(Immersion)
Believer's Baptism is the second ordinance instituted by Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20). Once someone has professed faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross as the only means of salvation, the believer's baptism is an outward expression of that belief.
Baptism itself does not provide salvation. It is an act of obedience that signifies the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and our union with Him.
Symbolism of Believer's Baptism:
- • Death to sin (Romans 6:3-4)
- • New life in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17)
- • Identification with Christ's death, burial, and resurrection (Matthew 28:19)
- • Represents the washing away of sins (Acts 22:16)
